Fancy schmancy. The Cascades Restaurant, inside the historic Stanley Hotel (inspiration for Stephen King’s “The Shining”), offers fine dining in an elegant atmosphere. The food, which is pricey for this area, can be anywhere from out of this world good to just okay. Similarly, the service can be anywhere from impeccable to terrible.
That being said, the ambience and opulence of The Stanley Hotel is worth experiencing. Built in the early 1900s, this grand old hotel–worth visiting for its architecture alone–is also famous for being one of the nation’s most haunted hotels. Is it weird to say it’s also a very romantic spot?
Like many restaurants in Estes Park, they just get overwhelmed in the summer. If you want to make a night out here, try going on a weeknight, and going early, and chances are you’ll have a better experience.
The restaurant has multiple seating options, including the main restaurant, the whiskey bar, and the patio. Services tends to be most attentive in the main restaurant.
Reservations are recommended, and can be made online. Also, just a heads up that they charge for parking in the summer.
